The San Francisco School of Massage offers over 700 hours of training in massage therapy. Courses are taken in 100 and 200-hour blocks, or programs, to accommodate the needs of a variety of students. Individual programs can take anywhere from two weeks to six months to complete, and the full 732 hours can be completed in as little as 1.5 years. Training at SFSM begins with basic certification in either the Swedish Massage Practitioner (112 hours) or Zen Shiatsu Practitioner (115 hours) programs. Both courses provide a solid foundation for entry-level employment in spas, chiropractic and doctors’ offices, acupuncture clinics, and fitness centers within the scope of current California regulations, as well as those for the City and County of San Francisco. These classes may be taken concurrently and completed in approximately three to four months, or successively over four to six months. Building upon the knowledge and skills obtained in the basic certification programs, the Massage Therapist (103 hours), Bodywork Therapist (201 hours) Shiatsu Therapist (103) and Asian Bodywork Therapist (100 hours) programs and our Continuing Education Workshop Series provide students interested in furthering their massage therapy training with additional skills, experience and competence. These programs also provide students interested in pursuing a career in massage therapy with the hours to fulfill pending California licensing requirements. Please explore the courses available and do not hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns you might have. If you don't know where to start, contact the school and a member of our staff can help you build a curriculum designed to help you meet your personal and professional goals.
